Subject: Great night in Monterey
Felt like a happy hamster dancing around the wood chips to awesome versions of Althea, Viola Lee, and pretty much everything during set 2 was smokin and heads were shaking there bones (well accept for
our 3 little girls who fell asleep on some blankets on the floor and we formed a circle to protect them.
Crazy fun and a great weekend in Monterey.

Subject: Very good mix
I was there about 10 rows back almost directly in front of Phil, and from there, the mix was perfect. Bob was not as high in the mix as he was during the NYE run, and John was definitely turned up. But Phil...hoo boy. He was way up in the mix and he was on his A game. I actually think this sounds almost perfect, as John isn't well suited for being way out in front of everyone else. He works perfectly here where he's blended in with everyone else.

As for the show itself, it smoked the whole way through. Not one snoozer, aside from perhaps No More Do I. They pulled out all the stops for the final show of the tour. Check out the Viola!

Great Furthur show at the historic Monterey County Fairgrounds! Woo-hoo. The sound at this venue is excellent. It was packed full. Phil was the MVP. Loud And Clear.

Highlights for me were the Huge Viola Lee! Comes A Time. Help > Slip > The Eleven! Throwing Stones. Shakedown Street. The vocals in the second set were amazing. Sunshine was trippin' on Help On The Way... Yeeeahhhw bum de du bump... Truckin' was awesome, too. Great version.

If the lead guitar was louder people would not have as much fun. The mix was perfect. It accentuated the musicianship of all these amazing musicians, not just the guy from the Dead cover band.

Chimenti and Russo are outstanding musicians and placed perfectly in the mix.

Hey patamus, i'm the guy you talked to at the break about John not being up enough in the mix. It was the same at shoreline and somewhat, but not as bad new years eve. must be the new sound guy. hopefully they read these now and then to see our feedback,as i'm sure the crowd and the energy of the show would change dramatically with increased lead guitar throughout, solo or not. John looks like he's enjoying himself, and we can't really hear him like he thinks we can.

Anyway, I can't stop listening to these recordings. GREAT JOB! and thanks for the quick posting. hope to see y'all new years eve.

Subject: Tour sounds great! But John needs to turn up!
This tour has been sounding awesome with a lot of energy and good sets. Wilkes Barre is going to be awesome! So sad they cancelled state college. However it's times at like 9:20 of Shakedown where John is ripping a nice solo but I can barley hear it! I obviously like hearing everyone when there jamming but when someone is soloing they need to turn up!

Subject: Thanks for the Praise
Yeah, I took a chance and set up in the back in front of the huge Meyer stacks. It sounds good and probably alot more chunky than all of the other aud's that will fallow due to the location i chose to record from. However, i am anxious to hear what others captured from those shows as i am a bit disappointed in the lack of Lead Guitar (John )in the Mix. When i mastered the 1st night recording in my hotel room the day after the show i didn't have alot of time to really listen to the show. Then prior to the start of the 2nd nights show a guy came up and asked if i thought John was low in the mix. I mentioned that i hadn't paid attention to it so i didn't recall. However. in listening to these shows and really trying to listen for it, it does become apparent that he is definetly quite low. It's like bobby's rythm was out in front where one would hope the lead guitar would me a little more prominent, especially during the Lead sections of the song! Oh well what can you do. Like i said i am curious if this was a result of my location or if John's guitar was low in general. I got to say i am not that impressed with the latest sound guy. I believe he has been there a while now but the old biker guy just had a better ear. Plus i liked his style. Shirtliss with pipe in hand, mixing like a mad man!

In case anyone that missed this show is wondering:
Every time the crowd cheers for no apparent reason (besides Bob forgetting the lyrics, it was because jets were constantly flying low over the arena, due to the proximity of the airport. Didn't see any jets at all on Friday though...)

Subject: Best So Far
Wow, what an awesome show, this is the best show I've seen them play , they just keep getting better every time. First off let me say that John is really coming around, especially now that he primarily gets to sing Jerry's songs. I think the connection between him and Jerry is the fact that he can really flesh out the ballads as Jerry did, in such an emotional way that it's so real and true. Comes a Time was an obvious standout for me, he owned it as did the rest of the band.

To anyone having doubts about John, let me explain a few things; I've noticed that it takes him a long time to get to the point, his playing is much more reserved and more subtle than Jerry's, but given the right ingredients than man can transport just as well as Jerry could.

As, for the band I couldn't be happier, it stands on its own two feet, no need to compare them to the dead. Like the Dead some nights their on, others not so much, but isn't this why we love them and keep going back?
